From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The aircraft involved was a Cessna 162 skycatcher. The flight originated from the Wichita mid Continent airport with a student pilot and a designated pilot examiner. The intent of the flight was a qualification checkride for a sport pilot rating.

Visual meterlogical conditions prevailed at the time of the accident with wind out of 200 degrees at 8 knots and 10 statute miles visibility.

While demonstrating a short field approach and landing, the applicant?s flight path was slightly low for the approach. At 30-40 feet above the runway, the applicant pitched up the aircraft while simultaneously bringing the power to the idle position. As a result, the aircraft entered a high descent rate in a stalled configuration, impacting the runway. The impact on the runway was with the left wing low causing propeller, nose gear and left main gear damage. Both occupants were uninjured; however the aircraft sustained substantial damage.

As the FAA filed it
