From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Airman stated he passed over the farm field to be sprayed in order to evaluate the area for obstructions. The farm field was located 8 miles north of Minden, NE. The airman then began to spray.

After the third pass and while turning to conduct a fourth pass, the airman failed to observe a windmill in the area. The airman struck the windmill with the nose and left side of the aircraft.

The airman managed to land the aircraft in a pasture approximately 3/4 mile from the windmill. A small fire under the engine ensued and the airman used his fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire.

Note: NTSB accident number was received on September 5, 2014, and prevented timely submission of this report.
