From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On August 08, 2014, at approximately 0700 EDT, N8153Z, model PA-28-236, was piloted by privacy data omitted, who flew with a friend from eagles nest airport (31N), located near west creek, NJ to jenkins airport (15N), located near Wyoming, Delaware. The aircraft landed on runway 18 and came to rest approximately 20 yards beyond the end of the runway. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the incident.

In a verbal and written statement from the pilotprivacy data omitted of the aircraft to FAA inspector privacy data omitted, from the philadelphia flight standards district office, the aircraft touched down approximately on the first third of the runway. After he applied brakes, he determined the aircraft would not stop before the end of the runway, and elected to apply full power to go around. The nose gear struck a drainage ditch located at the end of the runway, the aircraft slid across the road and came to rest in a ditch on the opposite side of the road. He further stated there were no mechanical issues with the aircraft. The passenger stated the pilot touched down approximately half way down the runway, then added power, then back to idle power after touching down. A witness, whose property is adjacent to the end of the runway; stated she thought the airplane was taking-off, and realized it was landing. It crossed the road and came to rest on the opposite side of the road. The witness went over to the airplane to investigate the condition of the occupants and found the passenger and pilot exiting the airplane under their own power and stated they were okay.
