From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Flight departed Republic Airport (frg) on 08/17/2014 at approximately 1415 EDT on an IFR flight plan to dutchess county airport (pou). During climb and close to altitude of 5000 ft, pilot noticed a surge in fuel flow to approximately 58 gallons per hour (gph) and a drop in fuel pressure to approximately 0-2 PSI. Pilot requested to return to frg with priority handling. New york departure cleared flight for a 180 degree turn and to 3000 ft. at p.d. pilot remained at 5000 ft until glide distance to frg, then started descent. Frg tower cleared flight to land runway 32. At approximately 2000 ft, pilot noticed an electrical fire smell. Pilot declared an emergency and shut down electrical system. Frg fire rescue was dispatched. At approximately 1400 ft, flames were seen coming from under the co-pilot rudder pedals. Pilot was able to lower gear and land on runway 32, coming to a stop on taxiway A5. Pilot and passenger were able to exit aircraft safely. Fire rescue extinguished the fire but had a hard time due to the fact that the fuel was not shut off.
