From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

N8099W was departing on runway 6 at Clarion County Airport. CFI, detected a slight engine roughness at 400 feet. CFI proceeded to conduct a magneto check which checked fine. The student, quickly turned on the carburetor heat and turned it off without instruction from the CFI. The student believed that he saw smoke and declared an engine fire as the engine began to shutdown. CFI took control of the airplane and turned the plane to a grass field. CFI and student attempted a restart of the engine. The engine did not restart and began the secure engine checklist. CFI landed the airplane under no power in field.
