From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot was approaching gillespie municipal airport Fredericksburg Texas. AWOS was reporting winds of 18 to 22 knots and gusting. Pilot made two unsuccesful attempts to land due to gusty wind conditions.

On third landing attempt pilot was approximatley 100 feet above runway and felt he could not make a sucessful landing, pilot decided to turn left in an attempt to go around when a strong crosswind gust blew under the right wing of aircraft causing aircraft to go into a left 90 degree bank angle and lose significant lift. The left wing struck ground first then the nose hit at which time the aircraft cartwheeled and turned upside down and came to rest approximatly I00 yards from the runway.
