What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
The pilot was flying the Louisiana coastline approximately 32 miles south of Morgan City. The flight had originated in eunice, LA (4R7) at approximately 9:15AM and stopped in abbeville, LA (kiya) to pick up a passenger and refuel the aircraft. The pilot departed kiya around 11:30AM and proceeded southeast bound for approximately 70NM along the coastline. Approximately 12:20PM the pilot noticed the left engine was intermittently running rough. The pilot suspected fuel contamination and elected to set the aircraft down on a sand bar versus attempting to fly the aircraft back to the airport. The pilot made several passes over the intended landing area which included a touch and go to better assess the surface conditions. On the final touchdown for landing the pilot touched down above stall speed with a three point landing. Instantly after touchdown the pilot was forced to apply full right aileron, full right rudder and full aft stick to counter a severe left yaw and forward pitching moment. The aircraft decelerated abruptly in a nose down position with the nose cone striking the shell bar first and then yawing to the left. The aircraft came to rest perpendicular to the intended landing direction with left down slope attitude. All occupants exited the aircraft without injury. Upon exit the pilot discovered the left main landing tire was missing and was re-located in the grass 15FEET from the aircraft.
As the FAA filed it
THE PILOT WAS FLYING THE LOUISIANA COASTLINE APPROXIMATELY 32 MILES SOUTH OF MORGAN CITY.
