From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

After a normal take off runway 15 at ack climbing through 600 feet the pilot heard a slight pop pop sound. The pilot then noticed the left manifold pressure and RPM looked erratic and the aircraft began to yaw to the left. The pilot then saw the left engine magnetos through the cowling and oil and smoke trailing behind. The pilot shut down the left engine and climbed to 800 feet and leveled off. Notified the tower controller returning to land ack. Landed normally.
