From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

10/03/2014:

About 09:35 EST an experimental amateur-built Sonex walex was substantially damaged when it impacted terrain about ten (10) minutes after takeoff from Flagler County Airport (xfl), palm coast, FL.

According to radar data, the airplane departed xfl about 0925 EST, and flew to the northeast.

10/04/2014:

The airplane was found at 13:33 EST, on October 4th, in a tidal marsh near pelican creek, about 13 miles north-northeast of xfl. The majority of the airplane was buried in mud/water, with the empennage and portions of structure associated with both wings visible.

10/05/2014:

FSDO iic met with NTSB investigator at the Flagler County Airport office for accident briefing prior to going to the accident scene. Local authorities informed the group that the airplane was ultimately found by triangulating the pilots cell phone pinging signal. We later went to a docking area to meet an airboat to take us to the accident site.

FAA iic and NTSB investigator were unable to witness the accident scene together do to airboat capacity. Instead two separate trips were completed by the individual inspectors and each individual took a series of pictures of the accident site.

10/09/2014:

The airplane was recovered 10/09/2014 and retained for examination to be preformed at a later date.
