What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On 10/13/2014 @ appx 1830 the pilot was landing a Piper J3C-65 at Idaho Falls (ida), during the landing the pilot elected to let the passenger have control of the aircraft for experience. When the aircraft ground speed slowed during the landing, the pilot did not have his feet in contact with the rudder pedals. When the rudder authority was lost due to ground speed, the passenger operating the aircraft did not maintain control. The pilot took control of the aircraft and attempted to move to brake steering to maintain control of the aircraft. During this time the aircraft's left main gear exited the runway surface. When the pilot became aware his feet were not in contact with the pedals he jammed them forward and applied full braking power and the aircraft tipped up toward the nose. This action caused the prop to come into contact with the ground. No further damage occurred to the aircraft during the event.
