From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On October 23, 2014, at approximately 18:00 EDT N74533, a Mooney M20-B

Received minor damage following an inadvertent gear up landing while performing takeoff and landings at Paoli Municipal Airport (I42), Paoli, IN. The flight also originated at I42.

The private pilot rated PIC was the only occupant of the aircraft and was not injured.

The aircraft is registered to larry a. evans and was being operated under the provisions of 14 code of federal aviation regulations part 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed or required.

During the final approach and landing, the pilot failed to lower the landing gear. The pilot stated that he had become fixated on approach airspeed and thought or assumed that he had lowered the gear on the base leg gear, undercarriage, mixture, props (gump?s) check. The aircraft touched down at the landing threshold numbers and on centerline. As the propeller made contact with the runway, the pilot pulled the mixture control to the shutoff position. The aircraft settled onto the runway and slid to a stop. At this point, the pilot finished the aircraft shutdown and exited the aircraft.

The I42 weather at the time of the incident was wind calm, clouds scattered @ 3,900 feet, temperature 12 degrees celsius, dew point 5

Degrees celsius and altimeter setting 3009.

The aircraft received minor damage to the propeller, nose gear doors and bottom strobe light. All controls were operating normally and both tanks contained fuel. A check of the aircraft after the incident by an airframe and powerplant mechanic / IA revealed the landing gear still operated normally. No other damage was identified.
