From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The principal maintenance inspector (pmi) conducted a review of an occurrence that took place at the Albany, NY international airport (alb) on 12/28/2014 on the aircraft listed above. This event involved the operator and the operator?s contract maintenance located at alb. This event also involved the local flight standards district office (FSDO) airworthiness inspector who was the primary inspector of the event; see ptrs id EA0120001501141, occurrence id OEA012000150007.

The cause of the event was the ground support equipment (gse) tow bar struck the aircraft during push back causing damage to the nose landing gear (NLG). As a result of this event the NLG was removed and replaced. Damage was also done to the radome and surrounding structure which required the radome replacement. The damage to the surround structure required the aircraft to be scheduled for a non-revenue flight to a repair facility for further repair (ferry flight). The operator has been issued operations specifications paragraph D084 ? Continuing authorization to conduct ferry flights.

Guidance used to conduct this review consists of the following documents: FAA order 8900.1, volume 4, chapter 13, general maintenance manual (gmm) chapter 24, gmm chapter 5, Bombardier aircraft maintenance manual (amm) chapters 5, 32, and 53, operator?s supplement 08-002C, Bombardier repair engineering order 601R-53-11-2741, airline support and project engineering authorization awac-CRJ253-00047, and work order number 235224.

After the removal and replacement of the NLG and radome the aircraft was inspected using guidance from the operator?s supplement 08-002C, sections c, e, and I. The reason this supplement was used is because the Bombardier amm does not have a specific requirement to inspect the main landing gear after this type of event. The director of quality (doq) requested the main landing gear be inspected ensuring the aircraft be readied for a safe ferry flight to the repair facility. After sections c, e, and I of supplement 08-002C were completed and documented the aircraft was documented safe for flight on log page 280024 for a class ii ferry flight authorization from alb to norfolk airport, VA (orf) the repair facility as required by the gmm chapter 24 and operations specifications paragraph D084.

After a successful ferry flight to the repair facility, the repair to the surrounding structure was accomplished using the guidance from airline support and project engineering authorization awac-CRJ253-00047.

A follow-up review has been performed using the computerized maintenance record keeping system and no further landing gear issues or radome issue have been discovered.

The review conducted by the pmi indicated FAA orders and operations specifications were complied with and the Bombardier and operators manuals were complied with.

As the FAA filed it
