From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot stated that they practiced an instrument approach on runway 35. The instructor pilot then asked the student pilot to practice another two normal traffic pattern approaches. After the third landing, he then took the controls of the aircraft and demonstrated a single engine traffic pattern approach with a landing to the student. He stated that he then handed the controls to the student and the student was low during the approach. He then suggested to the student to put the gear up to increase performance and allow the aircraft to complete the landing from a normal position. A helicopter was operating in the area at the time, also landing on runway 35. When arriving on final, the helicopter was still occupying the runway. The pilot was busy watching the helicopter contemplating a go around. The helicopter finally took off and the landing was made without the gear handle being selected down.

As the FAA filed it
