From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The PIC of N30283 Cessna 162 skycatcher. Serial number 16200094, light sport aircraft departed Klenawicus airfield (Shelter Island 49NY) at approximately 18:00 local time on April 13, 2015. Once airborne a witness discribed the CE-162 as banking hard to the right moments after rotation, causing the aircraft to hit the top of trees parallel to the grass field and impacting the ground. The pilot was extracted from the aircraft with injuries.

The PIC lost control during take off causing the aircraft to impact nose down and ended up resting wings level facing runway heading of 22. The aircraft was destroyed. The flight controls were free to move except for the left elevator which was binding due to post crash damage. The flight control cables were intact except that the right aileron cable was severed behind the right side instrument panel due to crash impact. The throttle was approximately 3/4 full open. Mixture was full rich. Fuel shut off was in the on position and carburetor heat was off. The engine controls were connected and were able to be moved. The tanks had fuel present. The fuel screen was clean and there was a clear odor of 100 ll. The engine was rotated 4 full revolutions with no unusual noises or binding. There was engine oil in the sump but the level could not be determined due to damage to the tank.
