What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On April 14, 2015 compass flight 5746 departed Monterrey, Mexico enroute to los angeles, CA. Approximately 10 miles from the departure airport the aircraft entered IMC conditions while climbing through 5,000 feet. The aircraft then encountered continuous hail. After encountering the hail, the crew received the following eicas messages: ap fail, at fail, elevator fault, rudder fault, stall prot fail, AOA limit fail, windshear fail, flt control no dispatch, ADS probe 3 fail, ADS probe 1 fail, and yd fault. The crew ran the qrh procedures for the fault messages and were able to clear several of the eicas messages, but still had messages for at fail, stall prot fail, AOA limit fail, flt control no dispatch, ADS probe 3 fail, ADS probe 1 fail, and windshear fail.
The crew was unable to contact the company using delta radio or arinc, but did contact dispatch and maintenance via acars messages. After discussions with compass airlines' dispatch and maintenance personal, the crew decided to continue to their original destination of los angeles (lax) instead of diverting to a closer location. An inspection of the aircraft after it landed in los angeles (lax) revealed approximately 100 locations where hail had damaged the aircraft skin. Most of the damage was located between the radome and pilot windows. The radome showed signs of delamination. Hail also caused damage to the right wing and fairing near the naca duct. It was determined that much of the damage occurred in the rvsm critical area.
