From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

During flight #3859 cvg-clt, passenger ordered a bottle of red wine for $7.00. He was informed by the flight attendant that credit cards were not accepted for payment and he would need to pay for his wine with cash. He informed the fa that his money was in his carry-on bag. The fa informed the passenger that he would come back for payment after completing his service. When the fa went to collect the money from the passenger the passenger stated he did not have any money only a credit card. The passenger had consumed the bottle of wine. The flight attendant informed the passenger that he would have to notify the captain that he, the passenger, had consumed the wine without paying for it. The fa and the passenger argued as to why it was necessary to inform the captain. The fa told the passenger he had to account for all purchases on the aircraft. When the fa turned away from the passenger, the passenger struck the fa in the back with a fist or elbow. The fa turned back around and asked the passenger why he struck him. The fa continued performing his pre-arrival duties and informed the captain of what happened. When the fa took his jumpseat for landing the passenger apologized. He said he didn't want any trouble and hadn't hit the fa that hard. The aircraft was met upon arrival in clt. After speaking with the passenger and fa, the fa declined to press charges against the passenger. He stated that he was not physically harmed by the passenger. The passenger paid for his bottle of wine.

The flight attendant originally complained about slight discomfort in his back however did not seek medical attention and this office was unable to verify/confirm any injuries.
