From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Wind reported prevailing from the southwest. Pilot took off headed south on runway 16. Lifted off from runway stated rate of climb 500' per min. This is the maximum climb rate for this aircraft. While climbing the pilot elected to make a right turn which placed the aircraft into a cross wind situation from the left. After completion of the turn the pilot gave control to the passenger (2nd pilot) upon doing this the aircraft experienced a violent dip in the left wing. The pilot states after this he took control of the aircraft and attempted to get it on the ground. The aircraft did not climb and witnesses stated the aircraft was flying eratic. The pilot crashed short of runway 34 on the souther side. No injuries were reported.

A downdraft was reported by the pilot for cause of the violent left wing dip.
