From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On June 2, 2015, N3567H, a Mooney M20K, encountered an engine failure in flight. At the time of the engine failure the aircraft was flying at 8000FT. The pilot attempted to restart the engine but was unable to do so. The pilot set up for an emergency landing at Fresno chandler executive airport (kfch). Because the pilot was unfamiliar with the airport and having the sun in his eyes, he was unaware he lined up the aircraft with the decommissioned parallel runway. The pilot decided to land long, because he wanted to make sure he didn?t hit any obstacles on final. Due to his steep approach and higher than normal approach speed, the aircraft landed on the last half of the decommissioned runway, causing the aircraft to run off the runway and hit the perimeter fence. There were no injuries reported.

When inspecting the aircraft, the reporting inspector (RI) observed a hole in the #1 and #3 cylinder wall. Excessive oil on the bottom of the aircraft cowling indicated there was oil in the engine when the failure occurred.

As the FAA filed it
