From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot was flying in the local area to gain experience in a newly built experimental gyroplane. When flying at approximately 500 feet above the ground, he made a left turn and felt a loss of power. Assuming that the motor quit, the pilot set up for forced landing in a nearby field. While sinking at a high rate, he instinctively pulled back on the stick and pushed the throttle forward. The engine immediately responded with full power, but the aircraft contacted the ground with a hard landing. The right gear failed on impact, causing the aircraft to roll to the right. The prop contacted the ground with near full power applied and the aircraft came to a stop on its right side. The pilot was transported to the hospital for minor injuries and was treated and released.
