What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
Pilot stated that he performed a preflight inspection at approximately 10:20 with no defects noted. Fuel samples were also accomplished with no contamination present.
Upon start, all engine parameters appeared normal, however, charging system indicated abnormal output. Aircraft was then shut down and system checked. The aircraft was then restarted and all indications appeared normal. Aircraft departed from 2K9 at approximately 12:45 pm on runway 17.
After lift off and approximately 2/3 to 3/4 down runway, engine began sputtering with significant loss of power, with engine still running. A glide was established and a right turn was made (east) followed by a left turn (north) towards departure airport.
While losing altitude the aircraft eventually landed in a saturated field, near the airport, with tail and mains contacting first, followed by the nose wheel which ultimately sank into the ground causing the aircraft to flip forward on it's top and separating the empenage from the airframe. Both the pilot and passenger then exited the aircraft with minor injuries.
As the FAA filed it
PILOT STATED THAT HE PERFORMED A PREFLIGHT INSPECTION AT APPROXIMATELY 10:20 WITH NO DEFECTS NOTED.
