From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On July 17, 2015 at approximately 1030 eastern standard time, an Ercoupe 415, N2764H, crashed on runway 27 at the Alexandria, Indiana airport (I99). The pilot, owner and sole occupant, was uninjured and the aircraft was substantially damaged by impact forces. The aircraft was being operated as a personal flight under the provision of 14 code of federal regulation part 91.

According to the pilot?s written statement, while flying in formation and while on final approach, the pilot became fixated on the aircraft in front of him. In an effort to create more separation between his aircraft and the first aircraft, the pilot reduced engine power. The aircraft stalled, landed hard, bounced, and hit hard again in a nose down attitude partially collapsing all three landing gear. The propeller exhibited tip curl damage that indicated a low power setting at the time of impact. There was no post crash fire and there were no witnesses to the accident.

As the FAA filed it
