From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

P.I.c. of aerosim flt. No. CONN431 on an IFR flight from ksfb to kfmy declared an emergency due to a loss of oil pressure and smoke in the cockpit. Acft. Diverted at 1435Z from an altitude of 5,000 ft. to X07. Last radar contact at 1441Z at an altitude of 600 ft. and crashed at 1444Z.

Acft. Cleared for landing at X07 and various witnesses stated:

1. Heard the engine throttle up they saw the acft. Fly over and on rwy heading, banked 90 degrees to the the left of rwy 17 and disappeared behind the trees, high speed;

2. Acft. Engine sputtered, acft. Was approx 300 ft. AGL, lost sight of acft. Behind a bldg and heard a loud bang;

3. Heard acft. Over rwy. 17, high for the approach, estimated at about 700 ft. AGL the ldg. Was aborted, acft. Gained alt. (50-75 ft.), flew rwy. Hdg. To approx. intersection of rwys. 17-35 & 06-24 then banked 90 degrees to left and heard and felt the crash about 5 sec. Later;

4. Seemed like the acft. Aborted the ldg., turned and eng. Backfired,turned left went behind trees, saw chute before impact-extended not inflated (line stretch), throttle manipulation between high and low at least twice before crash;

5. Saw acft. Wobbling, keeping nose down, lvl., flew rwy. Heading, banked 90 degrees, lowered nose, at treetop lvl. Popped chute but it didn't have time to inflate, prop windmilling like if it didn't have power, acft. Wasn't generating lift and erratic trying to keep altitude, this witness initially observed the acft at approx. 1,000 AGL.;

6. Acft. Sounded loud as it flew by;

7. Heard eng. Sputtering, saw it wobbling, losing alt., leveling and descending, chute deployed about tree top level, heard bang and saw chute, chute was not inflated, never heard the impact.

As the FAA filed it

1. HEARD THE ENGINE THROTTLE UP THEY SAW THE ACFT. FLY OVER AND ON RWY HEADING, BANKED 90 DEGREES TO THE THE LEFT OF RWY 17 AND DISAPPEARED BEHIND THE TREES, HIGH SPEED;

2. ACFT. ENGINE SPUTTERED, ACFT. WAS APPROX 300 FT. AGL, LOST SIGHT OF ACFT. BEHIND A BLDG AND HEARD A LOUD BANG;

3. HEARD ACFT. OVER RWY. 17, HIGH FOR THE APPROACH, ESTIMATED AT ABOUT 700 FT. AGL THE LDG. WAS ABORTED, ACFT. GAINED ALT. (50-75 FT.), FLEW RWY. HDG. TO APPROX. INTERSECTION OF RWYS. 17-35 & 06-24 THEN BANKED 90 DEGREES TO LEFT AND HEARD AND FELT THE CRASH ABOUT 5 SEC. LATER;

4. SEEMED LIKE THE ACFT. ABORTED THE LDG., TURNED AND ENG. BACKFIRED,TURNED LEFT WENT BEHIND TREES, SAW CHUTE BEFORE IMPACT-EXTENDED NOT INFLATED (LINE STRETCH), THROTTLE MANIPULATION BETWEEN HIGH AND LOW AT LEAST TWICE BEFORE CRASH;

5. SAW ACFT. WOBBLING, KEEPING NOSE DOWN, LVL., FLEW RWY. HEADING, BANKED 90 DEGREES, LOWERED NOSE, AT TREETOP LVL. POPPED CHUTE BUT IT DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO INFLATE, PROP WINDMILLING LIKE IF IT DIDN'T HAVE POWER, ACFT. WASN'T GENERATING LIFT AND ERRATIC TRYING TO KEEP ALTITUDE, THIS WITNESS INITIALLY OBSERVED THE ACFT AT APPROX. 1,000 AGL.;

6. ACFT. SOUNDED LOUD AS IT FLEW BY;

7. HEARD ENG. SPUTTERING, SAW IT WOBBLING, LOSING ALT., LEVELING AND DESCENDING, CHUTE DEPLOYED ABOUT TREE TOP LEVEL, HEARD BANG AND SAW CHUTE, CHUTE WAS NOT INFLATED, NEVER HEARD THE IMPACT.
