From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

^Mr. Snider^ stated that he fueled both of the tanks on N74ES at 1600 the day before (08/31/2015) the accident at kgeu. He stated that he topped the tanks off both of the main tanks for a total of 90 gallons of fuel (45 a side). He stated that he departed for chandler municipal and was on the ground for approximately 15 minutes and then departed to kelp (el paso international). He stated that he departed el paso on tue, 9/1/2015 for kgeu. He stated that he maintained 8500FT MSL. After about an hour out of kelp he stated that heard the engine stumble/struggle and noted that his EGT started cycling rapidly 20*-30* (*=degrees). He stated that he adjusted mixture, with no help. He stated that his rpm's were steady the 'entire time.' He stated that 30 seconds to 1 min later the engine experienced significant power loss, fuel flow went to zero, fuel press showed good. He stated that at 15% power, losing altitude he began "emergency procedures", slowed to best glide (80KTS).

N74ES was landed on the top of a mesa, after coming to a stop he stated that he exited the aircraft with his gear and moved away from the aircraft. He stated that he turned around and noticed smoke from the right side of the aircraft so he returned and attempted to put out a fire with the extinguisher that was under the pilot seat. He stated that the extinguisher did not affect the fire so he dropped it and moved away from the aircraft. He stated that he thought he had 15 gallons of fuel in the right tank and 30 gallons of fuel in the left tank. He stated that he picked up his gear and walked mile to gain phone reception and called emergency services.
