What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
The pilot was too low while on approach to a 2500' x 150' cut hay field. The pilot advanced the throttle to correct the situation but the engine did not respond. The aircraft tail impacted a large, round hay bale on the approach end of the field. The aircraft landed hard and came to a rest inverted. There was substantial damage to the fuselage area behind the two seats. The pilot stated that carburetor ice prevented the engine from responding to throttle application.
