What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
The pilot conducted a VFR flight from Spirit of st. Louis airport (sus) to Washington regional airport (fyg) for practice landings. After a takeoff from fyg, he retracted the landing gear. The three indicator lights went off, but the "gear unsafe" warning light remained illuminated. He returned to sus since he had a warning light on. When he put the gear down at sus, he could only get 2 indicator lights to illuminate. The right gear light would not come on. He flew by the tower and they told him the right gear appeared to be down. He then attempted several more gear cycles with no success, so he performed an emergency extension. Spirit tower allowed him to fly by the tower again to get a second look at it. Again, the tower indicated that the gear appeared to be down. Having gone through the trouble shooting and two visual checks by the tower, he decided to land. Upon landing the right gear collapsed.
