From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

American airlines flight 1218, an MD-83 aircraft, N9617R, aborted take-off due to illumination of ?r oil strainer clog? Annunciator. The aircraft reduced speed, exited the runway then proceeded to the engine run-up are where the flight crew performed a series of hi-power accelerations and decelerations with the affected #2 engine. Maintenance personnel were not notified, nor was a maintenance discrepancy made in the aircraft records for this event. Since the light extinguished and did not illuminate again, the flight crew called for take-off clearance, then the aircraft departed the airfield.

After takeoff, climbing through 15,000?, the ?r oil strainer clog? Annunciator illuminated again. The aircraft subsequently made a safe approach to smf with #2 engine retarded to idle, and returned to the gate at smf with no further incidents. The aircraft was taken out of service and inspected by contract maintenance provider jetpro line maintenance. #2 engine oil strainer was removed and inspected. No notable debris found. Discrepancy was placed on deferral iaw MEL procedures.

Aircraft later departed for dfw without repeat incident. Upon arrival to dfw, mcm procedure 71-91-14 was performed, no notable deficiencies found. Switch p/n 42D109-1A s/n 1988 was removed and replaced.

As the FAA filed it
