What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
The pilot attempted to land on runway 23, for an intermediate fuel stop, on a cross country flight. Wind was recorded approximately 30 minutes prior to and after the attempted landing at 180 degrees at 18 nautical miles per hour and 190 degrees at 16 nautical miles per hour, respectively.
While attempting to touch down the aircraft turned towards the direction of the wind and the left wing raised, causing the right wing to impact the ground and the aircraft rolled to the right. The aircraft became airborne briefly and touched down inverted, with the aircraft facing approximately 100 degrees from the landing direction.
The aircraft vertical stabilizer, rudder, and motor mount suffered substantial damage. The aircraft propeller showed evidence of rotation upon ground strike.
