What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
At approximately 0940 on 11/6/15, the incident aircraft, a 1971 PA-28R-200, landed gear up on rwy 36 at Massey Ranch Airpark. The airplane had two occupants on board, the pilot and co-pilot, with no injuries. The aircraft sustained minimal damage to the underside of the aircraft on impact with the runway. Damage included propeller, engine cowling wrinkling, and antenna damage. Additional damage to the left hand flap and fuselage sustained when lifting it with strap on removal. Upon getting the airplane back to the hangar, maintenance crews jacked the aircraft and cycled the landing gear with all 3 lowering as advertised. The airplane was being rented from flight time building, LLC based out of Massey Ranch Airpark in Edgewater, FL.
privacy data omitted Was the CFII providing instruction to privacy data omitted in the landing pattern at Massey Ranch Airpark (X50). They were practicing soft field take off/landings and short field take off/landings. The last maneuver was an emergency approach and landing to rwy 36 that the flight instructor, privacy data omitted, was demonstrating. At or about touch down point on downwind leg he retarded the throttle to idle and heard the landing gear horn come on. They followed the check list and delayed lowering the gear to reduce drag until final while planning for a no flap landing. privacy data omitted Said he was so consumed in making a soft touch down that he failed to double check the gear indications. He finally realized a few feet before touched down that he did not have three green. He quickly put the landing gear handle down at the time he heard a scraping sound from the footsteps. The aircraft came to rest about 10 ft off runway centerline. He immediately followed the check list to turn everything off and evacuated the aircraft. He called the operator to report the incident and placed a phone call to the orlando flight standards district office at 0946.
