From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

N28365, a Phantom X-1, took-off from goose creek (28A) flying towards Edwards air strip (9NC3) on 11/21/2015. Approximate time was 1500 local. The pilot stated he did a couple low passes at 9NC3. After his last low pass he swung out wide to the right to come back in for a landing. The pilot said his engine made a choking noise and he pulled back on the stick to try and gain altitude. He clipped the top of a tree and the aircraft went straight into the ground. At the accident scene the aircraft did have fuel and the lines appeared intact. There was no lapse in control continuity. The engine turned over when rotated by the prop hub.
