From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

N3241N was on an IFR flight plan from W29, bay bridge airport in stevensville, MD to jzi, charleston, SC with three passengers onboard. The current and qualified pilot states that the aircraft was in cruise flight at 8,000? And was operating correctly with all gages reading "in the green". In a period of 10-15 seconds, the engine lost all power and the propeller stopped. The pilot turned toward kfay which he believed to be the nearest airport. The pilot established best glide speed and proceeded directly to kfay. In the descent, the pilot realized that he did not have sufficient altitude to reach the airport and planned for an emergency landing short of kfay. The pilot selected a full rich mixture, switched fuel tanks, selected fuel boost pump to high, and attempted a restart with the starter. The engine would not restart. The pilot executed an emergency landing and then evacuated the aircraft with his three passengers who received minor injuries.

As the FAA filed it
