From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On Monday February 01, 2016, around 19:45 central standard time, a Cessna 182T, N784CP, registered to and operated by the civil air patrol, while doing a compassion flight under a 14 code of federal regulations part 91 flight, collided with trees after declaring missed approach of ILS runway 15 at the Mobile Regional Airport (kmob).

Instrument flight rules with deteriorated meteorological conditions on a night flight with low ceilings and dense fog prevailed at the approach time. An IFR flight plan was filed. Both certified pilots on board of N784CP were killed. The airplane cabin was destroyed by a post crash fire. The flight originated from L38 (Louisiana regional airport, located at gonzales, LA), and had as original destination kbfm (bfm brookley field Mobile downtown airport, at Mobile, AL). During the flight the pilot requested to change destination to kmob (Mobile Regional Airport, at Mobile, AL)

Review of transcripts between mob tower and N784CP, call sign 184CP, revealed that the airplane was cleared to mob via radar vectors. The ATIS for mob was verified with CAP184 and the aircraft was vectored to a base leg 7 miles outside the faf and cleared for the ILS approach runway 15 around 01:35 zulu time. Alternate missed approach instructions of fly runway heading, maintain 2000 feet, plus wind information were issued by ATC and acknowledged by CAP184. While on approach procedure, CAP184 declared missed approach, tower responded by restating to climb to 2000 and verified he was issued runway heading, CAP184 responded in affirmative. ATC controller noticed the aircraft was not climbing and reissued a climb to 2000 feet CAP184 responded ?roger?. Some seconds later ATC tower informed radar that CAP184 was NORDO and had lost radar.

At 0209 zulu time (20:09 CST) the Mobile composite squadron commander, of the Alabama wing USAF auxiliary civil air patrol located at Mobile, AL received a message that the ELT beacon of N784CP was going off.

The search and rescue process was initiated immediately but due to conflicting information regarding the aircrafts apparent location and the inaccessible area delayed locating of the aircraft crash site.

Almost 6 hours later, at 01:51 CST on February 02, 2016 the accident was located by the local police/fire department approximately 1 mile west of the terminal building at Mobile Regional Airport (kmob) in a wooded area; there were no survivors.

As the FAA filed it
