From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On Thursday, February 4, 2016, at approximately 1525 CST (2125 UTC), a private pilot certificated airman was involved in an aircraft incident that resulted from the aircraft vacating the hard-surfaced runway during landing at the Osage city airport (53K), Osage city, Kansas. Per the airman?s verbal statement, the aircraft was en-route to 53K from mankato, KS in accordance with visual flight rules (VFR). Surface winds at the arrival airport were reported from 280 degrees at 11 gusting 19 knots; the aircraft was landing on runway 35. Due to the strong surface winds, the airman elected to maintain a faster than normal final approach speed which subsequently caused the aircraft to touchdown approximately 1000 down the 2500 ft long runway. With approximately 1500 feet of landing runway remaining, the airman applied excessive braking causing the aircraft to skid and veer off the east side of the runway. The aircraft traveled an approximate 100-125 feet across a dirt road and eventually impacted slightly rising terrain on the east side of the road. Minor damage sustained as a result of this incident; the airman, the sole occupant on-board, was not injured.

As the FAA filed it
