On February 13, 2016 during skydiving video recording of a team performing formations the photographer, ramiro r. sainz, after finishing the recording, attempted to deploy his main parachute. During the deployment of the main parachute Mr. Sainz experienced difficuties and attempted to release his main chute; this was verified on the video from his camera. The attempted deployment of the parachute was at approximately 3,000 feet. Video of the parachute deployment showed that he was experiencing severe jerking movements before the video quit recording. Based on eye witnesses statements his parachute was deployed, however their statements indicated Mr. Sainz was maneuvering and that the parachute seemed to be out of control. His main parachute was eventually released. The cut away handle for the main parachute was found 200 feet south east of the impact area where Mr. Sainz impacted the cement wall.
His emergincy parachute was never deployed. Witnesses indicated that they did not see any parachute deployment before Mr. Sainz impacked the cement wall. The emergency parachute deployed on impack with the cement brick wall, this was indicated by the parachute not fully deployed and was lying in the ditch area still attached to Mr. Sainz.
