From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On Monday, March 28, 2016 at approximately 1700, N6500B, a Lancair LC40-550FG aircraft, taxied onto the private grass strip locally Named ?edisto international airport? For takeoff on runway 23 near 8671 shell house road, edisto island, south carolina, 29438: 32 degrees 32?17? N by 80 degrees 18? 50? W, (there is no airport designator). The pilot stated that he experienced a nose wheel shimmy which progressively got worse. The throttle was pulled back to idle power and the takeoff was aborted. The front wheel began veering right and subsequently collapsed. The propeller was damaged and the nose gear had sheared off. The complete damage to the aircraft is unknown at this time. There was one POB with no injuries. The aircraft was removed from the runway by the owner before the iic arrived. The iic checked the grass strip?s condition and found it had recently rained but the surface was firm. There were numerous large ant beds throughout the field hidden by approximately 3 inch high grass.
