From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

privacy data omitted A 14 CFR part 65 certificated airmen with a private pilot endorsement and is a parachute instructor with over 12.000 jumps. privacy data omitted Exited N24HV serial no. 109, a Dehavilland, model DHC-6 twin otter on 09 April 2016 at about 13500 ft. privacy data omitted Stated one of his parachutes control handles was snagged on his chute and had partial control of the chute. This resulted in a hard landing were privacy data omitted fractured his right ankle.

When the sgt. attempted to secure the parachute it was nowhere to be found. privacy data omitted, Employee at sky dive Deland told the police sgt. they were not allowed to take the parachute, per the FAA, and it had already been collected by someone and locked in privacy data omitted locker along with his helmet camera.

Sgt. privacy data omitted Called the roc, who contacted me. I was placed on a three way conversation with privacy data omitted and sgt. privacy data omitted privacy data omitted was talking over us continuously.

I explained to privacy data omittedand the sgt. when a skydiver is involved in an accident, the first step by the FAA is to determine if any regulations were violated. The FAA will examine the circumstances and route of the flight; the certification of the pilot; the airworthiness of the aircraft; and will ensure that the parachutes were packed in accordance with the regulations.

If the FAA does not find any evidence of regulatory violation, it will defer any further investigation of the accident to local law enforcement. The accident then becomes a law enforcement investigation, and the FAA has no further involvement.

If the FAA determines one or more of the regulations were violated, it will launch a separate investigation into the areas under its regulatory control, which concern the aircraft, its pilot, mechanic, the location or timing of the jump, and the parachute rigging.

The owner expressed some dissatisfaction with my explanation; but the police sgt. was able to retrieve the parachute.

I EXPLAINED TO ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^AND THE SGT. WHEN A SKYDIVER IS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, THE FIRST STEP BY THE FAA IS TO DETERMINE IF ANY REGULATIONS WERE VIOLATED.
