What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On April 23, 2016 at the Defuniak Springs, FL airport (54J) approximately at 08:20 lt, upon touchdown of the experimental/amateur built aircraft on runway 27, a right crosswind caused the plane drifting over the runway towards the left. While the PIC was doing right rudder input to correct it back to centerline, the right crosswind gust lifted the right wing causing the start of a ground loop this time in direction towards the right, taking the aircraft out of the runway surface onto the grass. While the ground loop was developing, the right wheel was caught on the lip of a drainage catch basin causing the aircraft spinning to the right, sliding backwards for about 30 feet, and resting about 60 feet north of runway 27 close to taxiway A3. The damage sustained on the aircraft included both propellers wood blades being shattered, plus LH, RH, and tail landing gears being collapsed. Further aircraft owner's inspection revealed damage to the left gear compression tube, to the carburetor, to the engines left exhaust stack, plus to the left forward wing strut. He mentioned during phone interview that there was no damage of the firewall, gear attach point areas, wings, empennage area, nor to the aircrafts fuselage. The sole occupant of the aircraft was the PIC whom had no injuries. No further actions taken. Exm.
