From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilotprivacy data omitted, stated that he was ferrying N323TC from saginaw h. w. browne airport (hyx) to hanover county municipal airport (ofp) Virginia, with a planned fuel stop at Marshall County Airport (mpg) west Virginia. privacy data omitted Stated that the purpose of his flight was to have a required annual condition inspection conducted on this aircraft once he arrived at (ofp) airport, for the owner of this aircraft. privacy data omitted Was flying the aircraft on a ferry permit issued by the GRR-FSDO-09, for an expired annual condition inspection as of February 26, 2016.

privacy data omitted Stated that the aircraft was running perfectly and that there were absolutely no problems with the aircraft prior to the crash landing. privacy data omitted Explained that while he attempted the first approach to landing at the (mpg) airport runway 24, he thought he was too high on the approach, and decided to go-around. On the second approach privacy data omitted stated he was in a much better configuration for that landing. However, upon touching down on runway 24, a gust of wind lifted his right wing, causing the left wing to strike the runway. privacy data omitted Stated that he added full power attempting a go-around, but the aircraft would not climb, and subsequently crashed to the left of runway 24, approximately 220 feet from the initial wingtip strike. I asked privacy data omitted during the attempted go-around if the flaps were moved up from the full down position, privacy data omitted stated that they were left in the full down position, because he did not have time to retract them prior to the crash, everything was happening too fast. privacy data omitted Stated he lost the aircraft in the cross wind, and it was his fault. privacy data omitted Received minor injuries to his feet as a result of this accident. N323TC sustained substantial damage in this crash to the wings, fuselage, vertical and horizontal stabilizer. Assisting me on this investigation was inspector james olsen airworthiness. privacy data omitted Will be given a 44709 as a result of this crash. Submission of this report closes this investigation.

As the FAA filed it

PILOT^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, STATED THAT HE WAS FERRYING N323TC FROM SAGINAW H. W. BROWNE AIRPORT (HYX) TO HANOVER COUNTY MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (OFP) VIRGINIA, WITH A PLANNED FUEL STOP AT MARSHALL COUNTY AIRPORT (MPG) WEST VIRGINIA. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT THE PURPOSE OF HIS FLIGHT WAS TO HAVE A REQUIRED ANNUAL CONDITION INSPECTION CONDUCTED ON THIS AIRCRAFT ONCE HE ARRIVED AT (OFP) AIRPORT, FOR THE OWNER OF THIS AIRCRAFT. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS FLYING THE AIRCRAFT ON A FERRY PERMIT ISSUED BY THE GRR-FSDO-09, FOR AN EXPIRED ANNUAL CONDITION INSPECTION AS OF FEBRUARY 26, 2016.

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS RUNNING PERFECTLY AND THAT THERE WERE ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS WITH THE AIRCRAFT PRIOR TO THE CRASH LANDING. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ EXPLAINED THAT WHILE HE ATTEMPTED THE FIRST APPROACH TO LANDING AT THE (MPG) AIRPORT RUNWAY 24, HE THOUGHT HE WAS TOO HIGH ON THE APPROACH, AND DECIDED TO GO-AROUND. ON THE SECOND APPROACH ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED HE WAS IN A MUCH BETTER CONFIGURATION FOR THAT LANDING. HOWEVER, UPON TOUCHING DOWN ON RUNWAY 24, A GUST OF WIND LIFTED HIS RIGHT WING, CAUSING THE LEFT WING TO STRIKE THE RUNWAY. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT HE ADDED FULL POWER ATTEMPTING A GO-AROUND, BUT THE AIRCRAFT WOULD NOT CLIMB, AND SUBSEQUENTLY CRASHED TO THE LEFT OF RUNWAY 24, APPROXIMATELY 220 FEET FROM THE INITIAL WINGTIP STRIKE. I ASKED ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ DURING THE ATTEMPTED GO-AROUND IF THE FLAPS WERE MOVED UP FROM THE FULL DOWN POSITION, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT THEY WERE LEFT IN THE FULL DOWN POSITION, BECAUSE HE DID NOT HAVE TIME TO RETRACT THEM PRIOR TO THE CRASH, EVERYTHING WAS HAPPENING TOO FAST. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED HE LOST THE AIRCRAFT IN THE CROSS WIND, AND IT WAS HIS FAULT. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES TO HIS FEET AS A RESULT OF THIS ACCIDENT. N323TC SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE IN THIS CRASH TO THE WINGS, FUSELAGE, VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL STABILIZER. ASSISTING ME ON THIS INVESTIGATION WAS INSPECTOR JAMES OLSEN AIRWORTHINESS. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WILL BE GIVEN A 44709 AS A RESULT OF THIS CRASH. SUBMISSION OF THIS REPORT CLOSES THIS INVESTIGATION.
