From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On June 12, 2016 at approximately 0745, an American AA-1, sustained substantial damage to the left and right wings, propeller and fuselage when the aircraft didn?t make enough speed for sustained flight during take-off, went through a fence at the end of the runway and came to rest in an irrigation ditch, at Denton Airport (5U0) Montana, while on a 14 CFR part 91 personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and no flight plan was filed. The private pilot and his passenger on board were un injured.

5U0 was the flights origin and was to have been the destination after a brief flight in the local area.
