From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

After take-off from ksus pilot was notified that his tail landing gear tire, tube and outboard wheel half had departed the aircraft during take-off and was found on the runway at ksus. Pilot continued to destination and landed safely at a private grass strip located at 5232 king robert lane, Westmoreland, Tennessee. Pilot only noted minor extra drag while landing and taxing to his hanger. Upon post flight inspection it was found the tail landing gear tire, tube and outboard wheel half were missing. The inboard wheel half was still on the tail landing gear axle. During the inspection conducted by the aviation safety inspector it was found the bolts holding the wheel halves together had pulled out of the threads. Since the tail landing gear had a hub cap installed there is no way to determine how long a condition existed prior to the wheel halves coming apart. The last maintenance conducted on the tail landing gear was accomplished at the most recent annual inspection completed on October 1, 2015.
