From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

During an instructional flight the instructor and student made a short field approach and landing. On the roll-out prior to applying power for a touch and go the nose gear collapsed forcing the aircraft off of the right side of runway 36L at New Orleans lakefront airport. Upon exiting the runway the aircraft struck the runway/taxiway sign for 36L & taxiway h. the sign pierced the right wing outboard of the engine nacelle dumping the fuel in the wing tank and caused the aircraft to rotate 90 degrees.; there was no fire. The aircraft came to rest perpendicular to the runway facing east. The right main folded up as well during the runway excursion. The pilots secured the aircraft and egressed through the cockpit door. Investigation of the aircraft nose landing gear failure is ongoing. This report will be amended as new information is obtained.
