From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Student pilot completed preflight and got information needed for the cross country solo flight from the instructor before take off. This aircraft had flown 2 times previous to this flight on that day. Loaded 13 gal. Fuel. Pilot later departed from ffc RW31. Aircraft departed with no problems noted. Upon reaching about 400 ft, the engine sputtered and stopped. Pilot configured the aircraft and lowered the nose for a landing on the golf course just ahead. Pilot tuched down on the #10 fairway and the aircraft came to a stop in the #11 tee box. The nose gear was bent back and the wing tips were both struck by trees. No injuries were reported.

Engine failure was later determained to be a valve failure which broke off and distroyed the #3 piston.
