From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The single engine sea rated private pilot approached the Cove from the east, intending to land heading west. There is a large island located in the middle of the Cove, approximately on a heading of west from the approach path. According to several witnesses, the landing speed was excessive. The landing attempt resulted in a bounce and when the aircraft was not climbing rapidly enough to avoid the island, the PIC attempted a steep-banked left turn, while approximately 20 feet above the ground. The aircraft turned past the water channel and headed for land. The aircraft was unable to outclimb the rapidly rising terrain on the south shore and the left wing and float struck a tree 100-150' above the water. The impact resulted in substancial damage and tore the left float from the aircraft. After the impact, the aircraft descended and impacted the water a few hundred feet to the west of the tree, next to a ferry boat. The PIC was not injured during the tree or water impact.

As the FAA filed it
