From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot was enroute to home airport at 2000 feet when the aircraft engine experienced a bang followed by partial loss of power. Subsequently, smoke was emanating from the exhaust and oil coming from the engine compartment. Pilot set up for an emergency landing in a field. During the turn to final the engine seized. Aircraft travelled through the field and was launched over a road when it hit a berm next to the road. It landed on the other side of the road and came to rest on the side of a hill. The gear collapsed when the aircraft came to a stop. The pilot and passenger exited the aircraft with no injuries.
