From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On July 21, 2016 at approximately 0700 local time (1200 UTC), the airman, holder of a commercial pilot?s certificate, was involved in an aircraft accident while conducting aerial application operations in the vicnity of grantville, KS. Visual meteorological conditions prevalied at the Topeka Billard airport (ktop), located approximately three and a half miles to the southwest of the accident site; clear skies and surface winds from the southwest at nine knots were reported. Pursuant to the aimman?s verbal statement, during the process of aerial application in a north/south direction, the airman identified and attempted to avoid flying into a small electrical service power line. In the airman?s attempt to maneuver the aircraft to avoid the power line, the aircraft?s propellor caught the wire and slung it across the left wing damaging the leading edge and the trailing edge just outboard of the left aileron. The airman was able to maintain controlled flight and proceeded to a private grass airport where the airman landed the aircraft safely. The aircraft sustained substantial damage as a result of it impacting the power line; the airman, the sole occupant, was not injured.
