From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On July 27, 2016, ^mike pearson^ was providing instruction to ^bruce thompson^. The instruction was being conducted in ^pearson's^ searey light sport amphibian plane along potomac creek, Stafford, Virginia. Pilot ^thompson^ made an approach and landing on the water, completed a touch-and-go, and took off again. During the climb he raised the nose too high creating an impending stall. Instructor ^pearson^ got on the controls with ^thompson^. The plane nosed over and did a hard landing on the water. Nothing seemed damaged or out of the ordinary. The pilots took off and returned to shannon airport (ezf) where the plane is kept. Upon landing ^pearson^ discovered small cracks on the hull and on the foredeck. ^pearson^ reviewed 830.2 and 830.5. His interpretation was the damage did not rise to the definition of an accident and he was not required to report the incident. ^pearson^ had his plane repaired.
