From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

PIC stated he was practicing touch and goes on runway 23 at Wickenburg. Wind at time of accident was estimated to be 290 at 9 KTS. PIC had already completed one touch and go and started base leg and final for a second touch and go and everything appeared normal with the approach. PIC had flown over the threshold and stated he ?flared quite a bit? And landed hard on the main gear, then hard on the nose gear. At the time PIC had said he was using 20 degrees of flaps.

PIC added power to abort the landing and retracted the flaps fully all at once. He stated that the ?aircraft sank? And hit hard a second and possibly a third time. During runway contact the right wing tip scraped along the surface and pilot stated he tried to correct. PIC also stated he was not on the brakes as the aircraft hit the runway. The aircraft continued off the right side of the runway and exited on to the dirt where the nose gear broke free.

Flm note: added 44709 requirement.
