From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On August 5, 2016, at approximately 0918 local, aircraft N560PW departed runway 29 at bridgeport Sikorsky memorial airport (bdr). Shortly after liftoff at approximately 600 feet AGL, the pilot saw a bird moving from right to left across the path of the aircraft. Immediately after seeing the bird, the bird struck the aircraft on the left side. The flight continued and was cleared to 10,000 feet MSL. After leveling at 10'000 feet, the master warning indicator began flashing and the left hand oil pressure low light activated. The pilot immediately reduced power on the left hand engine to idle and observed the left oil pressure indicator to be below normal. The pilot contacted NY approach to alert them of the event and declared an emergency with a request for an immediate return to the airport.

Once the airplane was established in an appropriate heading and descent for a return to the airport, the pilot elected to shut down the left hand engine in order to prevent any further damage. The aircraft landed uneventful on runway 29.

As the FAA filed it
