From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On August 15, 2016 at 0230Z N328AX, Hawker hunter MK58 (former military jet) was taxiing when the left main tire separated from the landing gear and the landing gear subsequently collapsed.

The left main landing gear collapse caused damage to the left wing upper skin panels and portions of the left wing pylons and attached pylon fuel tanks (drop tanks).

The pilot stated that he noticed a shimmy during taxi, elected to not take-off and aborted the mission. During the taxi to return to maintenance the tire separated and the gear collapsed. There were no injuries and no other damage to property. At the time of the incident the aircraft was being operated ?public use?.

The aircraft is former military single engine turbojet aircraft certificated experimental exhibition. The required condition inspection under an approved aircraft inspection program (aaip) had been accomplished and approved for return to service June 14, 2016.
