From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On initial approach to clt, flight 5490, N552NN, a crj 900, the crew noticed smoke in the cockpit. The crew donned their O2 masks and ran the qrh at which time the smoke dispersed. They declared an emergency and continued on approach for rwy 18R. The flight attendants called and stated they noticed smoke in the cabin. The aircraft landed safely and taxied off on to twy w pulling into a large area on intersecting taxiways for fire personnel to inspect the aircraft. Smoke came back with an indication of a temperature increase on the lt pack with an associated caution message. Flight attendants were called and an evacuation was made utilizing the main cabin door only. Passengers were then bussed to the terminal. The aircraft was shut down using the evacuation checklist.

Maintenance troubleshooting led to issues with the left pack which was deferred and the aircraft was returned to service. The acm was later removed and replaced. Further investigation of recent air conditioning events is ongoing in the carriers cass.
