From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On August 12, 2016, at approximately 0900, aircraft departed hoquiam airport (hqm) using runway 24 aboard his amateur-built zodiac 601 xlb. He proceeded his initially climb to 1,200 feet and turned south over the bay. He continued to climb to 2,500 feet and turned west toward westport. At this time he continued flying to the channel west of raymond and toward long beach peninsula. Soon thereafter, he made a 180 degree turn and flew back east of the peninsula crossing over westport and continued north across the channel toward damon point. At this time he indicated that his voltmeter is becoming erratic and shows negative reading. He stated that moments later, his engine quit and noticed all electrical power on the aircraft immediately shut down. He immediately performed emergency landing procedure and at 2,500 feet he stated that he slowed down to maintain best glide speed to 70 mph and look for the safe spot to land. He stated that he made a westerly approach and slowed down to full stall speed and scraped the top of the bushes. Right wing went down and was caught on the bushes and turned the plane facing north east. Aircraft was substantially damaged.
